About Elena Gantchikova
Welcome to the enchanting realm of my creative imagination! Elena Gantchikova, Елена (Алёна) Ганчикова, also known as Elegantchikova, is a versatile surrealist artist who fearlessly explores the intersection of traditional art techniques and cutting-edge technology. She divides her time between creation, research, and teaching, constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Elena Gantchikova's creativity is inspired by a rich tapestry of experiences and a deep academic background in music and the arts. Her inspiration stems from her extensive training in various disciplines, including composition, piano, musicology, and new technologies in music. As a cultural observer and music critic, she is constantly engaged with the creative, pedagogical, and enlightening aspects of art. Her work is influenced by her synesthetic abilities, which allow her to "hear" colors, and her research in the field of art synthesis, where she combines traditional techniques with the latest technologies. Each of her works is an exploration of the sensory experiences, aiming to create a harmonious and luminous oasis, a refuge for peace of mind and light. Elena's multifaceted background, including her studies at prestigious institutions like the Moscow Conservatory and the Paris Conservatory, as well as her research at IRCAM, CNRS, and EHESS (Paris), IMEB (Bourge), Akademie der Künste and Technische Universität Berlin, Paul Sacher Stiftung and University of Basel (Switzerland) has provided her with a broad spectrum of influences that shape her artistic expression. Her compositions, multimedia installations, and performances are not just artistic endeavors but also a form of research and a quest for new experiences. All of her work is interconnected as part of a cohesive and comprehensive artistic worldview. With a deft hand, Elena works across a wide range of media, including drawing, painting, assemblage, collage, instrumental and electroacoustic musical composition, video editing, installations, and performances. Through her art, she weaves a harmonious tapestry of sounds, shapes, colors, and scents, offering a sanctuary for the viewer and listener from the anxieties and traumas of the modern world. In the face of the horrors of our time - pandemics, wars, environmental destruction, and the suffering of millions - the artist seeks to create her own beautiful reality. She invites her audience to share in this fragile, illusory world of goodness, warmth, solace, serenity, and beauty. In doing so, Elena follows in the footsteps of the great masters of antiquity and the Renaissance, who created timeless masterpieces amid the turmoil of their eras. For Elena, the synthesis of the arts is a natural outgrowth of her upbringing in a family of multifaceted artists, her well-rounded education from an early age, and her lifelong experimentation across various artistic disciplines. Always eager to learn and grow, she remains open to new research and creative adventures. As both a musician and an artist, Elena firmly believes that the purpose of her work is to create a harmonious, luminous oasis where one can find inner peace. In a world increasingly dominated by distressing political news, she sees her art as a vital counterbalance, offering a glimpse of something better. In her works, Elena seamlessly blends her own music and paintings with the photographs and artworks of her late father, as well as her renditions of classical and romantic piano pieces. Through her research, she explores the artistic synthesis of musical, auditory, and visual arts, combining traditional academic techniques with the latest digital technologies. The result is a unique fusion that engages all channels of human perception. While Elena's paintings, art objects, music, and video works can be appreciated individually, the fullest understanding of her oeuvre comes from experiencing her performances within the space of her installations, where all forms of art coalesce into a single, unified whole. Of course, Elena is also deeply committed to teaching, sharing her wealth of experience, knowledge, and skills with her students. For many years, she has worked as a music and art journalist and critic, never missing an exciting cultural event or premiere in Parisian theaters, opera houses, and concert halls. She documents her observations and analyses in both written articles and video reports, believing it is crucial to stay informed about cultural news and trends and to learn from one's colleagues. As an heiress, Elena Gantchikova is dedicated to promoting and popularizing the artistic legacy of her late father, Valery Gantchikov (1937-2015), who was a painter, photographer, architectural engineer, and Doctor of Technical Sciences. Valery Gantchikov was born in Moscow on February 18, 1937, and passed away in Paris in 2015. From 1944 to 1951, he studied painting, drawing, aesthetics, and art history at the Moscow Secondary Art School affiliated with the Surikov Institute. A member of the USSR youth national decathlon team, he won numerous competitions and graduated with a gold medal. From 1952 to 1954, Valery studied at the Cinematography Institute (VGIK), specializing in cinematography, photography, and photo printing. Between 1954 and 1959, he earned a higher education degree in hydraulic engineering from the Moscow Institute of Civil Engineering. He was awarded the title of "Honored Inventor of the USSR" and defended his doctoral dissertation in 1989. From 1972 to 1992, Valery worked as a chief engineer on hydraulic engineering projects in the USSR, Cuba, Somalia, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen. Between 1992 and 2014, he was a journalist and photographer for various Russian media outlets in Paris. Throughout his life, Valery Gantchikov constantly pursued photography and painted with ink, watercolors, oils, and acrylics. His works were consistently exhibited, leaving behind a rich artistic legacy that continues to inspire and captivate audiences today.
